First, the writing in this book is five stars all the way. I doubt there are many authors out there who can write as well as Christine Feehan. The reason I gave the book 3 stars is because I couldn't say I liked the book. I found it to be very disturbing. It's very much Reaper's story, which is the tale of a man getting past horrific childhood abuse. You read about the abuse in detail and you see him struggle with PTSD. These are serious subjects and they're treated well, although still disturbing. It's obvious that Reaper's attraction to Anya is what makes him want to get past the scars of his abuse and because of that she takes the brunt of his attempts, which can be emotionally and physically violent. The thing that worries me about this series is that there are 16 other people in the club who all suffered the same trauma as children. Does that mean every book will be an exploration on how adults cope with a history of child sexual abuse? If that's the case, I honestly can't read more than one book and this would be the end of my venture into this series. We'll need to see what Christine does. Lately Christine Feehan seem to have become fixated on sex, particularly oral sex, to the detriment of her plots and characters. I loved Feehan’s earlier books. I first started reading her Dark series and went on to the Ghostwalker, Leopard, Drake, Sisters of the Heart and Shadow series.I was really looking forward to this series, the idea that is the basis for it is intriguing but I was very disappointed in the execution. The book was okay but could have been outstanding if she had put in the effort she use to put into her work.I hope she does not start relying on sex to sell her books. I would hate it if the other series I have been enjoying for so long get so mediocre I quit reading them.
