I've read the first and second books. I'm not reading anymore of this series. Book 1 was OK, only mildly slipping into unbearable, whiny lead character territory but by book 2, that's exactly where it is. Jemma ends up kidnapped at the end of both books more or less. She's useless in a fight, insists on over involving herself when she really just gets in the way. All of the smoking hot Male characters are into her. Why? Couldn't tell you. Jemma keeps secrets, everyone keeps secrets that when revealed aren't really that mind blowing. Of course she has "special blood of destiny." Can't forget that trope. And the romance in here is more cheesy than twilight. Insta- love based on physical attraction and brooding looks. From what I surmised so far there's going to be a mythical soul mate bond as well. The book starts out with jemma being released from a psych ward after the death of her father and going to live with a rich, mysterious uncle. Come on! I should have known. Maybe I'm being too hard on this series. When I was 15 I probably would have loved it. Alas, I did not love it. I don't think the author is untalented. I just think she needs to put her writing talents into more original stories. I don't normally write reviews. It's hard to put into words how I feel about a book when I'm done. So bare with me.I have read the first 3 books, so my review is for them all. No spoilers, I promise.I'm not sure what drew me to this series, but I'm glad it did. While it can be a bit predictable at times (I'm also someone who can spoil any movie or show 10 minutes into it), it is still an amazing journey.The best books, in my opinion, aren't the ones with proper grammar and punctuation, but the ones where the author takes you on a journey with the characters. You feel what they feel. Your heart starts beating quicker at the same moment the character's does. The stories that have you on the edge of your seat. The ones you can't quite put down, and you stay up until 4:00am so you can finish it. Those are the best books, and this is one of them. I read all 3 books in a few days.I definitely recommend the series. As with all books, give it a few chapters to get going. By the end, you will be fully submersed into Hollow Hills.
